One of my favorite times of the year is the beginning of race season. Ever since I was about 10 or 11 years old. I have been around racing in some form or another (father working on a crew for drivers Andy Pilgrim,Terry Borcheller, Scooter Gabe and George Csanadi).
Over the last few years I have really dove into motorsports photography shooting such events as : IMSA, INDYCAR, and REDBULL GLOBAL RALLY CROSS or know as GRC. But this race in particular means a lot to me because of the memories growing up at this very track. This year was exciting with all the new chassis:Audi’s new R8,Lamborghini new track beast the Huracan
,as well as the arrival of the long awaited Ford Performance FordGT
But to not be forgotten was BMW bringing the new M6 as there weapon of choice ,replacing the Z4 from years past.
Corvette brought back their C7R. Which survived the night and in the closing laps had a battle that engaged between Oliver Gavin in the number 4 C7R and Antonio Garcia in the number 3 C7R with the closest finish in history :034 of a secondin the GTLM class.
MAGNUS RACING switch from Porsche to a new Audi R8 and took home the win in the GTD class after taking the lead in the final laps from the Konrad Motorsports number 28 Lamborghini Huracan as it ran of gas within the last few min in the race.
The overall win went to the number 2 Tequila Petron ESM with there Honda Liger JS P2, with Wayne Taylor making a strong charge at the end in their number 10 Daytona Corvette Prototype.
Memories were made once again and will continue to enjoy one of America’s Favorite endurance races where the goal is to survive the night and sprint to the finish.
See you all again at Sebring to complete another round of the 36hrs of Florida.
