As the new year kicks off you start to hear the echos of engines and the smell of race fuel is in the air. That can only mean one thing that some of the world’s greatest drivers and teams take to the modern Motorsports stadium know as Daytona International Speedway(DIS) The Roar before the 24 truly is a once in a year experience where you can walk beside and meet your favorite driver. This year’s fan favorite driver has been Formula 1 legend and champion Fernando Alonso. He and his United Autosports garage we’re surrounded by fans all through the test weekend.
The testing sessions give the teams to fine tune there highly technical machines that will do Battle in the 24 hour endurance race at the end of the month.
One such team is Penske Racing a newly formed team in the IMSA series but legendary team owner Roger Penske is far from being the new guy. Currently having teams in NASCAR with drivers Jamie McMurray and Kyle Larson and Indycar with Wil Power, Simon Pagenaud, Helio Castroneves, and current 2017 Indycar Champion Jousef Newgarden. Some of the most dominant driver lineups in racing have come out of his camp and for the Rolex 24 hours of Daytona that is just the case with Castroneves, Pagenaud coming over to pilot a new Acura Prototype alongside previous race winner Dane Cameron in the number 6 car. The number 7 Penske Racing Acura will be piloted by Florida native and 2017 IMSA series champion Ricky Taylor which is coming over from Wayne Taylor Racing which he has proved he can race with the elite. joining Taylor is Juan Pablo Montoya, driver in NASCAR as well as Indycar recently out of the Penske Racing stable. To round out the number 7 Acura is Graham Rahal second generation driver with a Indycar and sportcar background.
2018 Marks the 20 consecutive year of Corvette Racing in Motorsports history and gotta say they look strong as ever with there iconic yellow C7R that can be heard as far as DaytonaBeach.
As in past years the new Battle tested Ford GT shows up with the same strong driver lineups and some new colors more bold and defined.
Back again after debuting the new Acura NSX GT last year at this race Michael Shank Racing is back to prove that last year is new fluke and they look to prove they are a serious race and championship contender starting hear at Daytona International Speedway.
Also Debuting this year at Daytona is Hart Racing at there very own NSX GT with drivers Ryan Eversley formerly in the continental tires series as well as part of the Honda Racing development team in the Timeline Acura in Pirelli World Challenge.
And Sean Rayhall a young and promising driver the small team we look to push to the front.
With the announcement the this year’s race will be a sportscar legend last run at the 24 we just want to take a take a second and say thank you to Scott Pruett for all the memories and great races throughout the year.
