The 2022 kickoff of Indycar season ,open wheel car masters took to the streets of downtown St.Petersburg,Florida.

Only thing that was hotter than the Florida weather was the action on track.

Second year driver Scott McGlaughlin and his Penske Racing teammate Will Power started on the front row and led the field to the green flag .

On the streets of St.Petersburg a good start is key with the street race making it very difficult to pass. Teams had to chose between a two or three pit stop strategy.

Last years winner Colten Herta looked strong through the weekend and was in the hunt early in the Firestone GP . The young drivers were showing the veteran and regular racers they were hungry and were headed to the front of the field.

With the only caution during the race which was brought out when rookie David Malukas hit the wall ending his day the teams that chose the three stop strategy were at a disadvantage.

In the end the battle came down to last years NTT Indycar Champion Alex Palou and Rookie of the year Scott McGlaughlin in a classic , Gannasi Racing versus Team Penske battle.
