The 2026 Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, the season-opening round of the NTT IndyCar Series, delivered high-speed drama on the picturesque 1.8-mile, 14-turn temporary street circuit winding through downtown St. Petersburg, Florida, from February 27 to March 1.

Under sunny skies on Sunday, March 1, Álex Palou of Chip Ganassi Racing mastered the challenging layout to claim victory in the 100-lap, 180-mile contest, fending off strong challenges from Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin in second and Christian Lundgaard in third.

The race marked the official start of the 2026 campaign, with drivers battling tight corners, the long waterfront straight, and unpredictable street-circuit conditions that traditionally produce thrilling overtakes and strategic pit battles.

Practice and qualifying unfolded across Friday and Saturday, setting the stage for a competitive field that included defending champions and rising stars, while the weekend also featured support races from Indy NXT, the inaugural NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series street event, and various fan experiences including the popular INDYCAR Party in the Park.

Palou’s win not only handed him the early points lead but also continued his strong form on the St. Petersburg streets, highlighting the blend of precision, power, and adaptability required to conquer one of IndyCar’s most demanding venues.
